Many folks are leaving just one star reviews because they don't quite grasp the concept of auctions and overlook the fine print - if you don't understand the ins and outs, John Pye may not be the place for you! They clearly state that items are ex-display or customer returns, and also highlight that there's limited recourse available. While there is some lesser-quality stuff, there are also hidden gems to be found. Personally, I am a retiree who, before the COVID situation, frequently utilized John Pye's services. With ample time on my hands, I enjoyed refurbishing and tidying up items to later pass on to my family and friends. Thumbs up and a smiley face! 👍😊

I've been heading to Bo'ness for a few years now, snagging items at auctions to resell. However, over the past couple of years, the place has really upped its marketing game and gotten way too crowded. All you folks bidding items up to nearly retail prices should really brush up on your auction skills. Back in the day, I used to score kettles and coffee machines for just a pound each, most of them needing some fixing up. Microwaves would go for £3-£5, usually missing parts or in need of repair. I'd clean them up, get them working, and then sell them off for a few quid. Now, you guys are driving up prices to retail levels and then some, and have the nerve to complain about it. It should be us long-time regulars griping about your inflated bids messing with our second-hand and parts businesses. You don't seem to realize that if you let us bid as we used to (at rock-bottom prices), we'd still be selling stuff cheaper than what you're forking out. So do us all a favor, step back, and let the seasoned second-hand and car boot buyers do their thing.

I reckon 2 stars may not do justice to my overall experience with this auction house. I've dabbled in 8 different lots from here and the one over in Wales. Me biggest blunders were twofold. First off, relying solely on online images for me purchases. And secondly, not being aware that delivery ain't bundled together. I ended up snagging 5 items where each delivery set me back £35. I had assumed it'd be group delivered, but alas, that weren't the case. The total cost of delivery definitely didn't amount to £175, but that's the fee they charged me. As for the other 3 lots, I had to fetch 'em meself. Yet disappointingly enough, none of the items from these multiple lots seem to be in functional order, with some even showing signs of damage. I'd strongly advise against making purchases without layin' eyes on the goods in person first. However, things might turn out alright if you make the trip yourself. Just keep in mind that the viewing hours are rather brief. Cheers!

These folks simply bundle up and seal rubbish, passing off products that don't function and can't even be inspected due to being sealed. It's absolutely mind-boggling that regulatory bodies permit them to keep operating. They never follow up on complaints, and emails go unanswered as well. Scoundrels, be warned!

Oh, mate, let me tell you about this dodgy Auction house. Absolutely dreadful customer service, I tell ya. Every time I ring 'em up, it's straight to voicemail. And when I finally manage to leave a message, they never bother to get back to me. Same goes for the chat feature - complete waste of time. And don't even get me started on the quality of their products. Broken bits, missing items, and just pure rubbish quality, it's a right mess. I'm kicking meself for not checking the reviews beforehand, there's too many naysayers for this company. Save yourself the hassle and steer clear, mate.

Well, today marks the first and final occasion I shall be engaging with John Pye auctions. Whilst I appreciate that their stock consists of surplus, liquidated, and damaged items, selling a product with vital components missing, thus rendering it entirely useless, is simply not up to par. Fortunately, it's conveniently located near the refuse tip; precisely where one might find themselves heading after an encounter with John Pye auctions.

AVOID PURCHASING FROM THIS DISHONEST LOT.

They peddle goods that are pre-owned, severely damaged (not just a few operational glitches, but visibly wrecked), and missing components.

Take a gander at the feedback here. Their only response is "apologies, kindly utilize our live chat or contact customer service," only to restart the cycle; customer service will retort with "oh, it's sold as seen, didn't you attend the viewing?" - Really, in Nottingham when I'm 500 miles away? Why offer an online service if customers obviously can’t view the items (it wouldn’t be financially prudent with travel expenses taken into account).

Their service is downright atrocious, and we are set to inform trading standards and engage our family lawyer until we are fairly treated. Quoting online for now:

“...[if specified goods are not second hand] the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA) will still apply. Under the SGA, the item must match its description, be of satisfactory quality, and fit for purpose. If the item falls short of any of these standards, you have the legal right to return it for a repair, replacement, or refund.”

I am deeply disappointed to have to leave a one-star review, just like everyone else here. The service provided by this auction house is truly dreadful.

I have had the misfortune of dealing with them on two separate occasions. The first time, they only sent me a partial order and then had to send a replacement, which arrived damaged in the box.

On my second attempt to use their services, I decided to give them another chance by selecting a different location. However, I encountered issues with the payment system as it would not accept any Barclaycards or debit cards. I was forced to make a bank transfer, which leaves me with no buyer protection. To make matters worse, I was informed that the couriers are not allowed to pick up items for collection, adding another layer of inconvenience.

Furthermore, the auction house's terms and conditions have many obscure clauses that only become apparent after winning a bid, trapping you into an agreement. If you refuse to pay, they will restrict your account access. This kind of business practice is unacceptable and reflects poorly on their professionalism.

John Pye is flogging dodgy goods that are no good and shamefully exploiting Corona as an excuse to prevent folks from inspecting, thereby pushing more faulty items.
When I raised a concern about a dodgy item, they just dodge with generic responses.
Absolutely dreadful, especially when it used to be somewhat decent! Please ponder deeply before bidding, and bear in mind all the extra fees will hike up the final cost way beyond what you expect!

Recently, I purchased a dishwasher from this auction, only to discover upon inspection that the pump was severely damaged. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to find a replacement pump, leaving me with a useless dishwasher that can only be disposed of or salvaged for spare parts.

The item was deviously packaged and photographed to deceive. More than 60% of the item was missing, and the remaining pieces were broken, resulting in a complete waste of money. Despite my attempt to inspect the item in person, I was forbidden from unpacking it by a staff member. When I contacted them later, I was informed that there was no recourse. This is particularly disheartening as I had been asked by an elderly lady to acquire the item for her. £100 has gone down the drain. In this modern era, it should be feasible for a company to turn a profit without mistreating diligent individuals in this manner.

I wouldn't recommend this auction house at all, mate. They advertised an item claiming it's worth £500, but what I received was a dodgy knockoff in a smashed box that ain't worth a quid. No consumer protection here, so you're on your own if things go south. Keep your wits about you, might find a good deal but chances are you'll end up with a load of rubbish. Dodgy and don't give a toss about their customers, steer clear!

I recently bought an item that was supposed to be complete, but it turned out to be missing essential parts needed for it to work properly.

John Pye's customer service was terrible and they refused to give me a refund. Luckily, my bank has got my back, but it's still a hassle.

This is why you should be cautious when buying cheap items, as their business practices are unacceptable.

Just popped round to pick up a couple of items my daughter bid on. Was a breeze to locate, drive up to the designated warehouse, present the lot number/receipt emailed to you. Your goodies are then placed in a wheelie bin and brought right to your doorstep. Load up the car, easy peasy. 😂

I had an unfortunate experience with the customer service at John Pye Auctions in Edinburgh. I called their customer services line to schedule a pickup for an item, and the lady who answered was incredibly unhelpful and rude. It seems that once you've paid your invoice, you're at their mercy, as they only offer inconvenient pickup times or charge extra for more convenient options.
