Exploring Asda Straiton Superstore: A Comprehensive Review

Asda Straiton Superstore, located in Loanhead, offers a variety of offerings that cater to the needs of local shoppers. With a diverse range of food products, household items, and clothing, there’s something for everyone at this supermarket. Let's dive deep into what makes this store unique and some areas where it could improve.

Store Highlights and Accessibility

One of the key *highlights* of Asda Straiton Superstore is its wheelchair-accessible entrance and wheelchair-accessible car park. This ensures that individuals with disabilities can shop comfortably. Free parking options, including free of charge street parking, are also available, making it convenient for shoppers. However, customers have pointed out that finding a good selection of great produce can be challenging due to shelves often appearing empty or poorly stocked. Many have raised concerns about metal cans and other items being frequently out of stock, which detracts from the shopping experience.

Shopping Experience: In-Store Insights

Inside the store, you’ll find a traditional layout that includes all major grocery sections—frozen and chilled foods, fresh produce, and even a dedicated area for pet foods and alcohol. Some customers appreciate the quick visit service when picking up pre-ordered items through in-store pick-up. However, feedback indicates that the overall organization can be improved, as gaps in stock and untidy aisles have been reported during peak hours. Checkout service is generally recognized as fast and friendly, but issues with staff responsiveness at self-checkouts have also surfaced. Customers have noted long wait times for assistance, particularly when technology does not work seamlessly.

Payment Options and Customer Service

Asda Straiton accommodates various payment methods including credit cards and NFC mobile payments. Unfortunately, customer service experiences vary considerably. While some shoppers highlight kind and helpful staff like Fiona and Jonathan, others report encountering rudeness from personnel, especially during busy shifts. A notable point of concern has been the inconsistency in quality, particularly regarding stale bread and outdated items. Customers are encouraged to check expiration dates diligently, as the store sometimes stocks goods past their best before dates.

Sustainable Practices and Community Engagement

An emerging focus for supermarkets worldwide is sustainability. At Asda Straiton, customers are encouraged to participate in recycling efforts, particularly concerning glass bottles and batteries. Engaging the local community in sustainable practices enhances the store's reputation, though improvements in this area continue to be suggested.

Delivery Services and Online Shopping

For those who prefer shopping from home, Asda offers delivery services and no-contact delivery options. However, there have been mixed reviews about the reliability of these services. Customers have voiced frustrations when delivery expectations are not met, emphasizing the need for better communication regarding order status. Shopping online through the Click & Collect service is another popular option, allowing customers to order groceries ahead of time and pick them up conveniently.

Conclusion

In summary, Asda Straiton Superstore provides a wide array of products and services aimed at fulfilling the needs of its shoppers. While the availability of great produce and overall cleanliness of the store receive mixed reviews, its commitment to accessibility and its extensive range of offerings remain commendable. Continued focus on improving customer service, stock management, and sustainability will only enhance the shopping experience for everyone.

I absolutely adore Asda's click & collect service. It's so convenient and saves me a ton of time!
Chloe Butler (19/07/2025, 17:57):
I say, the management at Straiton Asda is quite the rough bunch, old chap! Just the other week, we had an encounter with a rather impolite security fellow who simply wouldn't give us the time of day. It was as if we had committed some grievous error! Despite our persistent inquiries, he chose to ignore us as though we were invisible. Quite bewildering, if you ask me! Eventually, we decided to escalate the matter by speaking to the manager, a certain Donna. She had a word with the security gent and upon her return, promptly showed us the door, alleging that we had engaged in foul language towards the security personnel.
The nerve of some people, I must say! I've witnessed similar unjust ousting of patrons from the establishment on multiple occasions in the past. It's no surprise that fewer folks frequent the store these days, given the behavior of these buffoons in charge.
Kelly Martinez (18/07/2025, 21:38):
I popped into the store today to pick up a jacket for my son, and I couldn't help but notice that there were plenty of girls' jackets in various sizes, but only two options for boys that were limited to ages 9-10. It seems like the selection of boys' clothing in the shop is dwindling.
Jack Ortiz (02/07/2025, 21:58):
I had a splendid encounter with Gemma, a delightful member of the deli team, who kindly assisted my son and me this evening! Gemma truly went the extra mile in providing assistance, a level of service I have not experienced before from any other staff. Thank you ever so much!
Stephen Reynolds (30/06/2025, 14:35):
I popped into the store to find a pillow, and Lee provided EXCEPTIONAL customer service 👏 (I emphasized exceptional because she was incredibly helpful) ...
Donald Jones (28/06/2025, 09:48):
Look for the best range of products at the beginning of the month and the freshest produce in the morning. As they have a tendency to sell out throughout the day.
Ethan Butler (26/06/2025, 05:45):
I recently purchased a liter of Smirnoff vodka on December 19th for £18.75, only to discover today, on the 20th of December, that it is now priced at £16.00. I am quite displeased with this situation as it seems I have been significantly overcharged. Can you please offer an explanation for this discrepancy?
Russell Cook (20/06/2025, 09:48):
This Asda had everything we needed, an excellent selection and variety. The lass who helped us, Derry, was remarkably helpful and friendly.
Philip Brown (17/06/2025, 12:12):
Absolutely top-notch pizzas crafted by the ever so amiable Stephen this evening. Much obliged, 5/5!
Robert Ward (17/06/2025, 12:01):
I must say, shopping late at night can be quite a hassle sometimes, especially when the self-checkout requires approval and nobody shows up to assist you. This has happened to me twice in the last two weeks, and it's rather frustrating. In the end, I had no choice but to abandon my shopping at the register. It's definitely not the ideal way to end a shopping trip!
Arthur Hughes (15/06/2025, 23:41):
I had an absolutely marvelous and wonderfully inexpensive trip. I'll definitely be returning very soon. I adore this store and highly recommend it to everyone. 😘😘
Alice Hall (14/06/2025, 08:22):
The bread was right dry and old, mate. And the loaf I picked up wasn't exactly a bargain. Other than that, the shop's not too bad...
George Adams (12/06/2025, 19:50):
The supermarket is well organized, with a friendly staff, clean restrooms, ample parking, and competitive prices for fuel at the self-service pumps.
Hannah Rogers (11/06/2025, 15:27):
The food selection in the café is rather lacking and the staff could definitely work on being a bit more welcoming.
Heather Evans (09/06/2025, 12:25):
Absolutely appalling. I went to the tills and there was only one open, but when I approached it, the male cashier (likely in his 50s, but you can verify as it was the sole staffed till open at 9:55 pm) informed me it was closed (he was assisting another customer at the time). I inquired which till would be opening next, and he stated all staffed tills cease operation at 10 pm. I pointed out it wasn't yet 10 pm, to which he just shrugged and remarked 'I've closed my gate'. He could have easily processed my purchase as by the time I reached a till and checked out myself, it was 9:59 pm. I only had around 10 items.

I avoid self-checkouts and am displeased with the staff member's demeanor. I shall certainly not be returning. I thought self-checkouts were implemented to save costs, yet prices seem to only skyrocket. My concern lies not so much with the staff member but with the company depriving customers of a choice.
Cynthia Reyes (06/06/2025, 01:37):
This review for the click and collect team, specifically for Alisha! She deserves 5 stars for her service. She was very kind and helpful when I needed assistance with the click and collect service as it was my first time using it.

Thank you, Alisha. I wish there were more people like you working for Asda!👏🏻❤️🌸
Karen Edwards (04/06/2025, 03:21):
There's a decent selection, but make sure to double-check the expiration dates on the products as some may only have a day or two left before they expire.
Aaron Rogers (01/06/2025, 14:56):
Recently opened, a decently sized and quite spacious establishment. The staff is friendly and the services provided are satisfactory. Nevertheless, this particular store might not carry as extensive a range of products as other larger ASDA stores do.
Dylan Hamilton (01/06/2025, 10:36):
In recent months, there has been a shortage of small trolleys at the store, and the software updates for the self-checkout handheld devices seem to take an eternity to scan items, often resulting in error codes or failing to scan altogether.
Rachel Patterson (01/06/2025, 08:09):
Insufficient people on the checkouts, changed my review from two stars to one. If there are meal deals, you have to inspect your receipt every time. The number of times I've had to return is ridiculous. Also, the items that are just within date. This used to be my preferred store. My wife went back today, 1st March 2024. She purchased cheese at a reduced price of £3.25 down to £1.95, but at the checkout, she was charged £3.25. Upon returning to customer service, they acknowledged the overcharge. Come on Asda, get your act together. This issue occurs daily, and I will caution everyone I know to be wary. It's truly bad.

They charged the original price. So back to customer service, where they confirmed the overcharge. How many people don't check their receipts? Does Asda do this deliberately? It's becoming a habit. The staff at customer service are very helpful, but it's unfortunate that you have to seek their assistance so frequently. I won't return anymore.
